I’m slow. But I’m expensive.

A septic inspector handed me his business card with only five words printed on the front: “I’m slow. But I’m expensive.” I hired him on the spot. That was ten years ago. He is still my septic inspector.

I’m a senior creative director, writer, designer, and illustrator with over 20 years experience in agency and in-house brand marketing— including social, e-commerce, and print content development, creative strategy, documentary, film and TV commercial production.

Time works differently at AWS. Five years and some change as a brand CD. Managed a video team—wonderfully talented folks who taught me loads. Led creative on the CEO keynote video for re:Invent three years running, a few product launch ads, social campaigns, and a healthy smattering of playbooks and guidelines. Directed startup documentaries end to end—interviewing founders doing everything from tackling the global antibiotic resistance crisis to helping the blind navigate their world. Even co-hosted a training video on “upleveling creative briefs” while wearing a three-piece suit.

Feels like it was just yesterday.

Starbucks

On any given day in the Starbucks Creative Studio, I’d be developing social creative campaign strategies, designing travel mugs, writing copy for Mission & Values initiatives, coming up with Snapchat filters, or directing a 84-hour livestream of a pumpkin, in a nest, as the world awaited the birth of a latte…

ForeignAmerican Pictures

Part mini-ad agency, part one-stop production shop, part independent film studio, ForeignAmerican Pictures created content for an extremely diverse array of clients during its 15-year run. As director, creative, and co-owner of the company, I had the opportunity to make mini-documentaries for Microsoft and Rainier Beer, animated broadcast spots for Hillshire Farm, even write copy for the Academy Awards.
